If you are in the market for a modern muscle car, I have no doubt that the 2019 Dodge Challenger and 2019 Chevy Camaro have both peaked your interest! Despite the fact that both of these modernized American classics compete in the same segment, there are a few differences that make each model stand apart, and make it somewhat challenging to compare these vehicles. Let's see some of the similarities and differences between these two beastly coupes that may help you make a more informed decision about which would better fit your lifestyle!

Performance is obviously a major factor if you are searching for a 2019 Dodge Challenger or 2019 Chevy Camaro. Both of these vehicles come with several engine options that range from the Camaro's Inline-4, to a V6, to a V8 and the top of the line models for each vehicle have some incredibly impressive statistics behind them! For example, each of these two muscle cars offer four different engine options, and depending on how fast you really want to go will help determine which one is right for you.

The Chevy Camaro is the only one in this comparison that offers a 2.0-liter turbocharged Inline-4 engine that provides 275 horsepower, while the Dodge Challenger's base engine is a 3.6-liter V6 that puts out 305 horsepower! The Chevy Camaro also has a 3.6-liter V6 option as well as the 6.2-liter V8, and the 6.2-liter supercharged V8 in top level models. For the record, the supercharged V8 I mentioned provides 650 horsepower and is capable of going 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds! The Dodge Challenger on the other hand provides three different V8 options including a 5.7-liter V8 (375 horsepower), a 6.4-liter V8 (485 horsepower), and the 6.2-liter supercharged V8 that tops out at a whopping 717 horsepower in the "Hellcat" and 797 horsepower in the "Hellcat Redeye"!

With the right engine, both of these premium muscle cars can get from 0-60 mph in less than four seconds, and can both make it an entire quarter mile in less than twelve seconds! I unfortunately have not had the opportunity to drive either the Challenger Hellcat Redeye or the Chevy Camaro ZL1, but I am certain that both of them would make for an insanely enjoyable ride! The Hellcat Redeye is one of only six available models (SXT, GT, R/T, R/T Scat Pack, & SRT Hellcat) that are available from Dodge in 2019, while the Camaro ZL1 is one of seven (1LS, 1LT, 2LT, 3LT, 1SS, & 2SS). According to autotrader.com, "On the lower end, the Camaro's engines beat the Challenger's power plants in performance numbers while returning almost identical fuel economy".

Size and "space" are two key factors that are also worth mentioning. While the Challenger is noticeably bigger in height, length, and width, the interior of each vehicle is just as important. The 2019 Dodge Challenger offers a "bench-like" rear seat that provides three seat belts for a total of five passenger capacity, while the 2019 Chevy Camaro has two "bucket-like" seats in the back that is a much tighter squeeze, and is only capable of transporting four passengers at a time. In my opinion, the 2019 Camaro may be more practical for shorter distance rides or driving around the track, while the 2019 Challenger realistically is a better option for longer distance drives that provide more comfort to the driver and passengers!

As far as price is concerned, the 2019 Chevy Camaro is overall a little bit more affordable than the 2019 Dodge Challenger when comparing similarly equipped models. The base price of the Camaro comes in at $25,000 while the base Challenger has a price tag of $27,845. However, when it comes to the higher performance models the prices seem to stay relatively similar. The Challenger SRT Hellcat model starts at $59,245 while the Hellcat Redeye costs a total of $71,695. In contrast, the 2019 Camaro ZL1's price tag ranges from approximately $62,000-$68,000 depending on the trim level! If paying for a car that provides this kind of quality in performance is not much concern, I would highly recommend getting them both out on the road for a test drive, and see which one provides you an overall better experience!
