Modern day muscle cars are some of the most stylish cars on the road, and provide performance options that go unmatched by other types of vehicles! Dodge manufactures two of the top competitors in this field with the 2019 Charger and the 2019 Challenger. By simply looking at the exterior of each of these vehicles, you may think that the only major difference is the amount of available doors as the Charger offers four and the Challenger only comes as a coupe, but there is a great deal of differences as well!
Both the 2019 Chargers and Challengers offer a range of engine options that begin with an entry level 3.6-liter V6 that puts out between 292 and 305 horsepower, and that's just the beginning! Considering the fact that both of these muscle cars use essentially the same engines, the acceleration times are almost exactly the same regardless of which trim level you are interested in. For example, the Charger that comes equipped with a V6engine can get up to 60mph in approximately 6.2 seconds, while the Challenger has been clocked at one tenth of a second slower, 6.3 seconds. However, if you were to opt for the 6.4-liter V8 engine instead, you would be able to effectively reach 60mph in 4.1 seconds in the Charger, as opposed to 4.2 seconds in the Challenger. As you can see, no matter which engine package you decide is a better fit for your lifestyle, both the Charger and Challenger are very comparable. Additionally, the overall "heavy" weight of each of these vehicles interferes with the handling, but needless to say each of these muscle cars with the right performance package would be a blast to get on a drag strip!
2019 Dodge Chargers have a slightly more "typical" sedan body style as far as the exterior is concerned. On the other hand, the 2019 Dodge Challenger conveys a slightly more original and traditional coupe look as it always has! Due to its lack of all around visibility while in the driver seat, the new Challenger seems to be more about form, and less about function. Due to the slight amount of additional visibility in the 2019 Dodge Charger, these models are considered slightly safer overall than the 2019 Challenger.
When it comes to fuel economy, both the 2019 Charger and 2019 Challenger are exceedingly similar. Standard V6 models average about 19mpg in the city, and 30mpg on the highway which is still impressive considering that engine option. As the performance of these vehicles increase, the fuel economy obviously decreases a little bit. For example, 6.4-liter V8 variants average a combined fuel efficiency of about 18mpg, while the top of the line "Hellcat" variants provide roughly 16mpg. Regardless of how much city driving you do, both the Charger and Challenger will get you about the same distance on the same amount of fuel.
Both the Charger and Challenger come with a great deal of standard entertainment equipment on the inside! Each is equipped with a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and can certainly be upgraded to the 8.4-inch display if need be! Also, each of these modern muscle cars come with a built in navigation system so there is no need to use the GPS feature on your smart phone! Not only do these vehicles come with awesome entertainment options, but the safety features are helpful as well! 2019 Dodge Chargers provide automatic high beam headlights, lane departure warning with "lane keep assist", automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and even blind spot monitoring with "rear-cross traffic alert", and even rear parking sensors. The 2019 Dodge Challenger comes with several of these safety features but lacks the availability of the lane departure warning system!
One of the most important, if not the most important factors to consider when looking at vehicles that provide performance options like these modern muscle cars do, is the price. Base models have the lowest MSRP, so if we're comparing "apples to apples" the Charger comes in as the slightly more expensive option. You can pick up a brand new Dodge Charger for $29,220 or a brand new Dodge Challenger for just $27,845. If you are in the market for a vehicle of this magnitude, then you probably have an idea of which would be more practical for suiting your needs, but both come with available "higher horsepower" engine options that increase the price tag. The best advice I can give you about which option would be best is to come in and take a test drive! Take my word for it, you will be happy that you did!
