When it comes to full size pick up trucks, the competition between models and brands has been ongoing for years. This trend has stayed consistent into 2019, and two of the major players in the game this year are the Dodge Ram 1500 and the Ford F-150. Both trucks have a great deal of options as far as engines, models, and trim levels are concerned! Ford's F-150 has routinely been one of the best selling trucks on the market, but the 2019 Dodge Ram is all-new and undeniably deserves consideration.

As far as the exterior of each pick up truck is concerned, the Dodge Ram has much more to report than the Ford F-150. The 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 looks rugged, and elegant at the same time with its new exterior body design. Dodge has created a much more modern looking full size pick up truck than previous models, and the interior is no exception. On the other hand, Ford has kept the "boxy" exterior as they traditionally have in the past. One of the biggest differences is that the Ford F-150 provides an available "2-door configuration" which is an option that you will not find with the 2019 Dodge Ram pick up truck.

It is no surprise that these full size pick up trucks are beginning to provide even more interior features and options than they have in previous years, but some trim levels of the F-150 and Ram are almost competing with luxury vehicles in a sense! Base models are obviously more "basic" than the top level editions, but some of these more expensive trim levels include premium audio systems, leather seats, and all the new age technology you could ask for. According to autotrader.com, "The inside of the Ram feels more modern and premium, and the F-150's interior is a little more old-school".

Although neither of these two full size pick up trucks come with a manual transmission, there are multiple different engine options in each model. For example, the 2019 Dodge Ram provides either a 3.6-liter V6 with 305 horsepower, or the even more dominant 5.7-liter V8 that produces 395 horsepower! However, the 2019 Ford F-150 trucks present much more variety under the hood. A 3.3-liter V6 with 290 horsepower is the most basic engine available in these trucks, but there are four other V6 options available, and some engines are even turbocharged!  For example, the 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 offers nearly 100 more horsepower than the base model!

Autotrader.com also acknowledges that "The V6 in the Ram (1500) is a little better than the V6 in the F-150 in performance, fuel economy, and towing". The topics of payload and towing are very also important to consider if you are in the market for a new truck. The Ram 1500 has a max towing capacity of 7,730 pounds with the V6 engine configuration, and 12,750 pounds of maximum towing capability with the V8. The Ram 1500 also does not come with an available diesel option as it has in the past, but the F-150 still offers the "Power Stroke diesel option! Ford's F-150 has a plethora of towing capacity options because they have so many different engines, but the turbocharged V6 models, for example, range between 9,100 and 13,200 pounds of towing capacity. Regardless of the job you have to finish, or the boat you need to tow, these trucks are able to haul almost anything!

As far as price is concerned, the Ford looks to be the more expensive choice all the way from the base model up to the Limited edition. If you were to compare the Limited Ram to the Limited F-150 you would see that the Ford comes with a price tag of $67,135 and the Limited Ram 1500 has an MSRP of $53,295! These models specifically come with all the "creature features" and provide incredible comfort and performance. For example, both trucks have a quality infotainment system, but the new Ram 1500 is available with a 12-inch touchscreen which has quickly become the largest in its class. Not only can it fully display the navigation while driving, but you can customize the full screen to your specifications!

Both of these trucks have proven that they offer genuine safety, reliability, comfort, performance, and all the luxurious options you could want! In my opinion, the Ram 1500 is more aesthetically pleasing due to its new design, and more mechanically inclined than the F-150 when it comes to the models that people actually purchase! If you are in the market for a new full size pick up truck, I would highly recommend taking both of these out on the road for a test drive!
